Warn Recalls 121,000 Winch Remotes Over Safety Concerns

Warn Industries, one of the leading manufacturers of winches and other off-road equipment, has issued a recall for approximately 121,000 wireless winch remotes that were sold with some of its VR Evo winches. The recall was prompted by a defect in the handheld remote-control device that could cause the winch to activate inadvertently, posing a serious safety hazard.

According to the recall notice, which was posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under campaign 22E101000, water and corrosion in the housing of the remote can cause circuit board corrosion, which can allow the winch to operate unintentionally. This defect affects certain Warn VR Evo 8, VR Evo 8-S, VR Evo 10, VR Evo 10-S, VR Evo 12, and VR Evo 12-S winches that were manufactured between June 3, 2019, and November 29, 2022.

Warn Industries has advised customers who own affected winches to inspect their wireless remotes for corrosion. If corrosion is found, customers should disable the wireless function by removing the battery pack from the remote and contact Warn customer service for a replacement remote, which will be provided free of charge.
